Struggling to convince to get your child to brush??

Then this post is for you..

Pongal – Sweet childhood memories, Visiting native, First time veshti ( Dhoti), Watching colourful Kollam (rangoli), Movie with friends
Long holidays (obviously this was the first reason for all this fun) and what not

This Pongal , I visited to one of my school friend who came to native from Bangalore for Pongal leave..

After having sweet Pongal, friendly chat..my friend asked that question..(!!!)
whether brushing is compulsory for kids? My younger one is not at all brushing for the past 3 days?

His wife shouted- Dei , Ashwin , this Dr uncle will put injection if you don’t brush..

And she told me- For the past 3 days, after they have arrived to Tirunelveli , his son is very resistant to brushing..and not allowed her to brush also. .

I asked her- Did u check or ask whether Ashwin has any mouth sores (ulcer)?

She said – No, I already checked it’s normal only..any way u check, Ashwin come here..

With so much hesitation and fear that young smart boy popped in..
With a courteous smile I asked to come here..
Nooooooooooo……he shouted like any thing and ran away.

This is the common mistake most of the parents do, when they threaten that-
Dr will put injection, kids have that fear and doubt and it’s very difficult for any dentist to persuade to check or proceed any dental procedures.

Yes I agree, It is very difficult to convince some children to brush.

But, Why children resist brushing ?

For very young children, brushing is a new act, simply not being used to it, they may feel its uncomfortable.

Some children have either mobile milk teeth or growing new teeth that make mouth a sensitive area. So they are resistant to brushing or eating. Intermittent type resistant to teeth brushing is mostly due to teething or mobile milk teeth.

Fun ways to encourage brushing

Favourite flavour tooth paste
Ask your kids to choose their favourite flavour, even a same flavour can be different taste between various brands

Get an Attractive tooth brush
Cartoon character shaped tooth brushes available, ask them to select their favourite at the store. So that they never think brushing is a punishment.

Brush together
Some kids shows no interest when they alone do some activities and feel its a punishment and try to escape.Better ask them to brush with your old siblings or all the family members brush at the same time for the kids to get interest.

At the age of 3 years no milk teeth would be mobile, and he didn’t have any mouth ulcers, then why this boy is very stubborn to brush and that too for the past 3 days .

I asked my friend to show what tooth paste they are using?

Yes, at last that cat is out of bag..

Here Ashwin grand parents using some Ayurvedic herbal tooth paste. Most of this type herbal tooth paste, even an adult feel a slight burning sensation while brushing, Kids mouth is very sensitive ,that’s why Ashwin was very adamant to brush after tried first time..

Kids are more prone for smooth surface caries and nursing bottle caries. Herbal tooth paste don’t contain fluoride( the main ingredient in a paste to prevent/ arrest decay formation) .So Ayurvedic Herbal Tooth paste is strictly no for the kids.
